States with Double Demerits

Three Australian states impose double demerit points during high-risk periods such as public holidays and school holidays. During these periods, the demerit points for speeding offences are doubled, making it much easier to reach your licence threshold.

New South Wales

Double demerits apply during long weekends, school holidays, and the Christmas/New Year period. All demerit points are doubled.

Queensland

Double demerits apply during designated holiday periods including Christmas, Easter, and other long weekends throughout the year.

Western Australia

Double demerits apply during public holiday periods including long weekends, Christmas, and Easter. All speeding demerit points are doubled.

Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory do not have double demerit periods.
